Coker’s Legacy: Our Crane & Rigging and Mechanical Contracting History

For more than 21 years, Coker Crane & Rigging has supported industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects across Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida. What began as a small operation focused on crane services has grown into a multi-division company offering crane, rigging, and mechanical contracting support for complex jobsites.

That growth reflects years of hands-on experience, steady investment, and a commitment to doing work safely and correctly.

From a Single Boom Truck to a Growing Operation

Coker Crane & Rigging was founded in 2004 when Kyle Coker purchased his first boom truck and went out on his own. With years of experience already in the crane industry, Kyle built our company around reliability, safety, and jobsite accountability.

As demand grew, we added more cranes in the early years, enabling us to take on larger, more frequent projects while continuing to serve contractors who needed dependable lifting support.

Expanding Into Industrial and Contracting Services

As projects became more complex, we expanded beyond crane and rigging services. In 2010, Kyle obtained a general contractor’s license, leading to the formation of Coker Industrial Contractors in 2013.

This expansion allowed us to support industrial and infrastructure work that required more than lifting alone, including coordination with mechanical systems, structural components, and site logistics.

By taking on broader scopes of work, Coker became a stronger partner for clients who needed experience across multiple phases of a project.

Building Mechanical & Structural Capabilities

Continued growth led to further specialization. In 2019, the mechanical and piping division was established, strengthening our team’s ability to support HVAC, piping, and mechanical installations.

That same year, we invested in a new headquarters in Yulee, Florida, adding office space, warehousing, and yard capacity to support fleet growth and operations.

As our company continued to scale, additional divisions followed. The structural steel division was launched in 2021 to support reinforcement, fabrication, and installation needs, followed by the commercial plumbing division in 2023. Each expansion was driven by real jobsite demands and the goal of providing reliable, in-house solutions.

Investing in People & Long-Term Growth

Coker’s growth has always been tied to our team. By 2022, we surpassed 50 employees for the first time, reflecting both expanded services and a strong internal culture. Investing in skilled professionals, experienced leadership, and hands-on training has allowed Coker to maintain consistent quality across a wide range of project types.

Bringing specialized services in-house has also improved coordination and efficiency, enabling projects to proceed with fewer delays and clearer communication.

Supporting the Region Today and Tomorrow

Today, Coker supports healthcare, industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects throughout the region. With a growing fleet, specialized divisions, and experienced crews, we are positioned to handle complex work while maintaining the safety and reliability clients expect.

While our capabilities have expanded significantly over the years, the foundation remains the same. Preparation, accountability, and quality workmanship continue to guide every project. As our company moves forward, those principles remain central to our legacy and its future growth. Join the team today.
