Problem
Buc-ee’s was constructing a new location in Brunswick, GA, and the mechanical contractor overseeing the project needed a trusted partner to assist with setting rooftop units and other mechanical equipment. Since the contractor was from out of town, they required a crane and rigging provider with the expertise, reliability, and equipment to do the job efficiently.
The project involved multiple crane mobilizations, including setting rooftop units on curbs to elevate them, placing additional equipment, and moving five chillers to the back of the building. Given the scale of the project, precise planning and coordination were essential to ensure that the work stayed on schedule and met the contractor’s expectations.
Strategy
Our team took a proactive approach, reaching out early in the construction phase to identify the project’s needs and establish communication with key players. Coker prepared and provided lift plans for each mobilization.
A 45-50-ton boom truck set the curbs on the roof for the initial phase. Once those were in place, a 200-ton crane was used to install the rooftop units. Our supplied certified riggers and signalmen ensured that each unit was properly positioned and secured.
The job also required strategic equipment placement. Semi-trucks were needed to transport the rooftop units around the perimeter of the building, and a signalman was stationed on the roof to direct operations and ensure safety. Throughout the project, Coker maintained flexibility with scheduling, working closely with the contractor to complete the lifts efficiently while minimizing downtime.
Outcome
Our team completed the rooftop unit installation ahead of schedule, finishing in a single day instead of the two days the contractor had initially budgeted. Coker’s efficiency and professionalism impressed the client. The successful execution of this project led the contractor to reach out about additional work, reinforcing our reputation as a reliable and responsive partner for mechanical installations.
