F-15 plan being placed at the Jacksonville International Airport
F-15 at JAA

Problem

Jacksonville Aviation Authority needed to safely position a decommissioned F-15 as a new display at Jacksonville International Airport. With the jet requiring a move during the night to avoid disrupting active airport operations, the client needed a partner capable of meticulous planning, precise coordination, and safe maneuvering.

The challenge included managing road closures and coordinating with airport operations, government agencies, and local authorities – all to ensure the jet was moved without incident.

Strategy

Coker was selected for our proven expertise in handling high-risk moves. Over several months, we worked closely with airport operations, government agencies, and local authorities to map out precise travel routes and secure necessary permits.

Although the Air Force initially planned to move the jet, our team was brought in to coordinate the intricate details of the operation. We mobilized a 250-ton all-terrain crane and transport truck and developed detailed 3D lift plans to ensure every step was safely executed.

A key part of our strategy was positioning the crane a day early to set up and perform a safe, controlled lift of the F-15 from the road onto its display stand. Working in the middle of the night, we minimized disruptions by coordinating road closures and aligning our schedule with airport operations, ensuring that the move was seamless and safe.

Outcome

Thanks to our rigorous planning and close collaboration with all stakeholders, we completed the F-15 display project on time and within budget. The operation caused minimal access delays and disruptions at the airport, which was crucial for maintaining ongoing operations.

Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s administration was extremely pleased with the smooth execution and precision of our work. The success of this project reinforces Coker’s reputation as a reliable partner for complex, high-risk moves. Now, our work is available for all to see every time you fly out of Jacksonville.
